TÜBİTAK 1002-A Project Success from Our Faculty – Asst. Prof. Dr. Kübra Uyar Pınar

A project led by Dr. Kübra Uyar Pınar, a faculty member in our Faculty’s Department of Computer Engineering, has been awarded funding under the TÜBİTAK 1002-A Rapid Support Program.

Dr. Mustafa Yurdakul will serve as a researcher on this innovative 12-month project, titled "Development of Real-Time Deep Learning Architectures for the Detection and Segmentation of Bronchoalveolar Lavage Fluid (BALF) Cells," which is supported by a budget of 150,000 TL.

The project aims to improve the analysis process of BALF cells—which are critical for the diagnosis and monitoring of lung diseases such as infections and lung cancer—by automating clinical examinations that are currently largely manual and time-consuming. As part of the study, a novel deep learning architecture named "MorphCA-YOLO" will be developed; this architecture directly incorporates the morphological characteristics of the cells into the learning process. The resulting model is intended to provide a high-accuracy, explainable decision support system (XAI) that reduces the workload of clinicians and accelerates diagnostic processes.

We congratulate our esteemed faculty member and the research team on this study, which will make interdisciplinary scientific contributions to the field of biomedical image analysis by integrating artificial intelligence with healthcare technologies, and we wish them continued success.
